Gender and Sexual Diversity Conference

Gender, Sexuality, and Race Research Symposium: "Community Organizing, Social Justice, and 'Doing' Diversity Work"

We would like to thank our guest keynote speakers Mamone and Kayleigh Phillips, director and editor of the Queer Appalachia Project, and Howard Adler, filmmakerand founder of Ottawa’s Asinabka Film and Media Arts Festival, for sharing your words and amazing work at our inaugural gender, sexuality, and race research symposium.

Thank you to all of our panelists (Kassandra Colón, Dr. Nancy Caronia, Dr. Cari Carpenter, and Dr. Yvonne Hammond, Christine Jacobs, Emily Thompson, Julie Warden, Charlotte Hoelke, and Jorge Castillo) as well as the many students, faculty, staff, and community members who were in attendance and engaged in our intellectual discussions and praxis on community organizing, social justice, and doing diversity work. In Sara Ahmed’s words: doing “diversity work... requires insistence.”

We hope that the conversations we started continue and that we keep insisting. Check back later for information on the 2019 symposium.saw
