State and National Advocacy Groups

Fairness WV

Fairness WV (Fairness) is the statewide civil rights advocacy organization dedicated to fair treatment and civil rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender West Virginians. Our mission is to ensure LGBT people can be open, honest and safe at home, at work, and in the community. We represent the diversity of Appalachia and our membership is open to everyone who believes in fundamental fairness.

Queer Appalachia

The Electric Dirt Collective is comprised of folks from different racial, socioeconomic, educational, and religious backgrounds. For far too long, depictions of these regions have been white-washed and have made invisible the communities of color that live and struggle alongside us. We acknowledge the necessity for our work to not emulate these patterns and seek that both the project and its prospective leadership accurately and appropriately reflect our diverse community.

National Center for Transgender Equality

The National Center for Transgender Equality is the nation's leading social justice advocacy organization winning life-saving change for transgender people.

NCTE was founded in 2003 by transgender activists who recognized the urgent need for policy change to advance transgender equality. With a committed board of directors, a volunteer staff of one, and donated office space, we set out to accomplish what no one had yet done: provide a powerful transgender advocacy presence in Washington, D.C.

Today, NCTE has grown to a staff of 17 and works at the local, state, and federal level to change laws, policies and society

Human Rights Campaign

The Human Rights Campaign represents a force of more than 1.5 million members and supporters nationwide. As the largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization, HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are ensured of their basic equal rights, and can be open, honest and safe at home, at work and in the community.
