So, it’s been a long time since 1953, right? 71 years! Do you ever wonder what things were like for trans and nonbinary people 71 years ago? Do you wonder how far we’ve come? Do you wonder what to do about the future?

Well, we’re here to offer a glimpse into the past, and have a conversation! This summer, executive producer Tom Berich has teamed up with the LGBTQ+ Center, a few people from the School of Theater and Dance, and M.T. Pockets Theatre to produce a live reading of Ed Wood’s cult classic film, Glen Or Glenda!

The reading carries a powerful message of acceptance. “Ed Wood famously directed what was considered one of the worst films of all time (Plan 9 From Outer Space), but before he did that, he directed ‘Glen or Glenda’ in 1953, a campy but very sincere plea for tolerance for the non-binary and trans community.”

This is not just any reading; it is also a fundraiser for the WVU LGBTQ+ Center, which is committed to creating a culture of community and connectivity that advances the University’s mission of promoting high-impact research, healthcare and prosperity for students, faculty and staff at WVU and beyond.

Whether you are a long-time fan of Ed Wood or just curious about the journey of the LGBTQ+ community, this event promises to be an engaging and enlightening experience. Plus, you will be supporting a great cause while enjoying some laughs and maybe even shedding a tear or two. The show will begin and conclude with a talkback with the audience.

Gather your friends, bring your open hearts, and celebrate the beauty of resilience together. Tickets are $10 each and available for purchase now or at the door. Every dollar raised directly supports the WVU LGBTQ+ Center’s mission.
